How Will The Deeds of The Kuffar be Weighed? Do They Have Righteous Deeds Which Would be Placed on the Other Side on the Scale?

The deeds of the Kuffar will be weighed on the two sides of the scale. On the first side of the scale of a kafir, his evil deeds will be placed. In view of  the fact that he does not have any good deed which will be placed on the other side, his evil will outweigh, dominate and tilt the scale.

We have mentioned earlier that when a kafir does a good deed in the world, Allah repays him and hastens his reward for it in the world in terms of comfort, peave of mind, blessing in his provision and increase in his wealth; for Allah does not treat anyone unjstly.

Allah says,

Whoever desires the life of the world and its glitter, to them We shall pay in full (the wages of) their deeds therein, and they will have no diminution therein. They are thpse for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but Fire; and vain are the deeds they did therein. And of no effect is that which they used to do.´´ (Surah Hud: 15-16)

Shirk destorys righteous deeds such they do not benefit in the Hereafter as Allah says,

To Him belong they keys of the heavens and the earth. And those who disbelieve in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.)

of Allah such are they who will be the losers, Say (O Muhammad salla alayhi wa sallam to the polytheists, etc.): Do you order me to worship other than Allah O your fools?´´ And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad salla alayhi wa sallam), as it was to those (Allah´s Messengers) beforeyou: ´´If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds wil be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers.´´ Nay! But worship Allah (Alone and none else), and be among the grateful.´´ (Surah Az-Zumar: 63-66)

It is authentically narrated from the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam that the kafir will be fed (the reward of) his good deeds and he would come of the Day Judgment without any good deeds (in his account). The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam said,

Verily, Allah does not treat a believer unjustly with regard to his good deed. He will confer upon him (His blessing) in this world and will give him reward in the Hereafter. And as regards a non-believer, he will be made to taste (the reward of) his good deed that he has done for himself in this world so much that when it would be the Hereafter, he will find no virtue for which he should be rewarded.´´201

If the Kuffar be questioned, how then do we understnad the following statement of Allah,

But the Mujrimun (Criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc) will not be questioned of their sins.´´ (Surah Al-Qasas: 78)

And the statement,

That will be a Day when they shall not speak, And they will not be permitted to put forth any excuse.´´ (Surah Al-Mursalaat: 45-36)

The answer is that the situation of the Kuffar will be one of two:

That the Kuffar would not be asked concerning their sins in a manner of accounting for good or evil deeds like the believers would be asked. Rather, they would be asked in a reproachful manner over their actions. They would be upbraided and rbuked, ´´Why did you steal?! Why did you commit adultery?!

That the Day of Resurrection is an extremely long one which would be dotted by many events and locations - accounting, scrolls, Siraat (the bridge), the Haws (pond) - so, they may be asked in a location and may not in others.

There are a number of locations on the Day of Judgment. There may be a location in which questions and speech will be allowed and there are other situations in which that will not be allowed.
