Manumitting Slaves

 Freeing slaves and bondmen from their slavery is an action that is beloved to the Lord of the worlds; and it is one of the means of salvation from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said:

´´Whoever frees a Muslim slave, Allah will save all the parts of his body from the (Hell) Fire as he has freed the body parts of the slave, even his private parts will be saved from the Fire (because of freeing the slave´s private parts).´´93

A man came to the Messenger of Allah and said:

´´Direct me to an action that will bring me closer to al-Jannah and distance me from Hellfire.´´

The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´if you had shortened the address, you would have presented the matter. Emancipate a nasamah (human being) and release a slave.´´

The man said: ´´O Messenger of Allah, are they not the same?´´

He said: ´´No, emancipating a nasamah is unilaterally freeing him, while relasing a slave is to assist in its cost.´´94

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
