Preserving the Obligatory Salaahs

 Preserving the obligatory salaah in congrgation is from the signs of eemann (faith):

´´The mosques of Allah shall be maintained only those who believe in Allah and the Last Day:´´ (At-Tawbah: 18)

When the denizens of the Fire are asked on the Day of Resurrection:

´´´What has caused you to enter Hell?´´ They will say: ´´We were not of those who used to offer their Salaah (prayers). (Al-Muddaththir: 42-43)

Hence, salaah is a means of safety from the hellfire.

The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said:

´´Whoever offers his salaah in congregation for forty days, catching the first takbeer (in each); two exoneration from hypocrisy.´´82

The Messenger of Allah also said concerning salaah:

´´Whoever preserves it, it will be light, proof and safety for him on the Day of Resurretion and whoever does not preserve it, it will not be light, proof and safety for him and on the Day of Resurrection; he will be raised along with Qarun, Haaman, Fir´awn and Ubayy Ibn Khalad.´´83

 None will be saved on the Day of Resurrection except he who used to worship alah alone with Whom there is no associate. As for the other gods, they will lead their adherents into the Fire.

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
