The Greatest of the Keepers of Hellfire

 The greatest and the leader of the keepers of hellfire is an angels whose name is Malik. Allah mentioned him in his statement:

´´And they will cry: ´O Malik )Keeper of Hell)! Let your Lord make an end of us.´ He will say: ´Verily, you shall abide forever.´´ (Az-Zukhruf: 77)

The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam had a long dream in which he saw different punishments taking place in the Fire and tehy include:

´´And we proceeded till we came to a man with a repulsive appreance, the most repulsive appearance you even saw a man having! Beside him there was a fire and he was kindling it and ruming around it. I asked my companions: ´Who is this (man)?´ They said to me: ´Proceed!´´´ At the end of the hadith, he added: ´´Ánd the bad looking man who you saw near the fire; kindling it and going around it, is Malik, the keeper of Hell.´´106

This is the description of the keepers of hell and their duties. Allah explains it to us as a warning and intimidation. We beseech Allah safety from it by His mercy and benevolence - Ameen.

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
