The Story of the Last Person to Enter Paradise
The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam said:
´´The last person to enter Paradise will be a man who will ealk once and stumble once and be burnt by the Fire once. Then when he gets beyond it, he will turn to it and say: ´Blessed is He Who has saved me from you. Allah has given me something He has not given to any one of those in earlier or later times.´ Then a tree will be raised up for him and he will say: ´O my Lord, bring me near this tree so that I may take shelter in its shade and drink of its water.´
Allah, the Exalted and great, will say: ´O son of Aadam, if I grant you this, you will aske Me for something else.´
He will say: ´No, my Lord.´ And he will promise Him that he will not ask for anything else. His Lord will excause him because He sees what he cannot help desiring, so He will bring him near it, and he will take shelter in its shade and drink of its water.
Afterwards a tree more beaitiful than the first will be raised up before him and he will say: ´O my Lord! Bring me near this tree in order that I may drink of its water and take shelter in its shade and I shall not ask You for anytning else.´
He (Allah) will say: ´O son of Aadam, if I bring you near it you may ask me for something else.´ He will promise Him that he will not ask for anything else. His Lord will excause him because He will see something he cannot help desiring. So He will bring him near it and he will enjou its shade and drink its water.
Then a tree will be raised up for him at the gate of the Pardaise, more beautiful than the first two. He will say: ´O my Lord! Bring me near this (tree) so that I may enjou its shade and drink from its water. I shall not ask You for anything else. He (Allah) will say: ´O son of Aadam! Did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me anything else.?´
He will say: ´Yes, my Lord, but I shall not ask Thee for anything else.´ His Lord will excause him for He sees something the templation of which he could not resist. He (Allah) will bring him near to it, and when He will bring him near it he will hear the voices of the inhabitants of Paradise. He will say: ´O my Lord! Admit me into it.´
He (Allah) will say: ´O son of Aadam, what will bring and end to your requests to Me`Will is please you if I give you the whole world and another one like it along with it?
He will say: ´O my Lord! Are You koking with me, thought You are the Lord of the worlds?´
Ibn Masood /the narrator of the hadith) laughed and asked (the audience): ´´Won´t you ask me what I am laughing at?++
They (then) said: ´Why did you laugh?´´
He said: ´´It is in this way that the Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam laughed. They (the companions of the prophet) asked: ´Why did you laugh, O Messenger of Allah?´ He said: ´´On account of the laugh of the Lord of the universe, when he (desirer of Paradise) said: ´are You with me, though You are the Lord of the worlds?´ He will say: ´I am not joking with you, but I have power to do whatever I will.´
Then it will be said to him:
´Will you be pleased that you have a possession of one of the kings of the world?´
He will say: ´O Lord, I am pleased (with it).´
He (Allah) will say: ´that is for you and another similar to it, and another similar to it, and another similar to it, and another similar to it,´ and he will say on the fifth time: ´I am pleased, O Lord! ´ And it will be said again: ´This is for you and ten times its like. For you is what satisfies your soul and delights your eyes.´ Again he would say: ´I am pleased, O Lord´´´171
In another narration (it says):
´´Allah will say to him afterwards: ´My slave, ask´ and he will say: ´O Lord, let me catch up with the people.´ Then allah wil say to him: ´Catch up with the people.´ And he will proceed, jogging in Paradise till be gets close to the people when a place of pearls will be raised for himand he will fall down in prostration. It will be said to him: ´Raise your head, what happened to you He will say: ´My Lord, I saw! Or You made me see, O Lord.´
It will be said to him: ´Raise your head; it is just one of your residences.´ Then a man will meet him; he will try to prostrate to him. It will be said to him: ´What is the matter with you?!´ He will say: ´I thought you are one of the angels.´ He will then say to him: ´I am only one of your attendants and one of your slaves.´ So he will procced ahead until he opens the gate of the palace and he will find it to be a hollowed pearl of different storeys, different gates and locks and keys. This is the least of the people of Paradise in rank.´´´172
