Various Actions that Redeem from the Fire

 Righteous deeds are generally the path to Paradise and salvation from the Fire. The Companions used to ask the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam beneficial issues and sought salvation from the Fire. Abu Dhar narrates, I asked,

´´O Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam, what will savea slave from the Fire?´´

He said: ´´Eemann in Alah.´´

I said: ´´O Prophet of Allah, there is action alongside eemann.´´

He said: ´´he should give from what Allah has provided him.´´

I said: ´´O Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam what if he is poor and cannot find something to give?´´

He said: ´´Let him command the good and forbid the evil.´´

I said: ´´O Messenger, what if he is a stuterer and incapable of commanding good and forbidding evil.´´

He said: ´´Let him work to benefit the incapacitated.´´ Again I asked: ´´What if he himself is incapacitated and unable to do anything?´´

He said: ´´Let him aid the oppressed.´´

I said: ´´What if he is weak and unable to aid the oppressed?´´

The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´What good do you want to leave for your companion?! Let him withhold harm from people.´´

I said: ´´If he does that, will he enter Paradise?´´

He said: ´´No Muslim will pratice anu of these charcteristics except that it will hold him by the hand till it admits him into Paradise.´´´103

 None will be saved on the Day of Resurrection except he who used to worship alah alone with Whom there is no associate. As for the other gods, they will lead their adherents into the Fire.

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
