Why Will be the Majority in al-Jannah -Men or Women?

 The Companions were discussing this issue in the presence of Abu Hurayrah and he said: ´´Has Abul-Qaasim not said: ´The first batch (of people) that will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like a full moon; and those who will enter next will be (glittering) like the brightest stars. Every one of them shall have two wives, each of whom will be so beautiful, pure and transparent that the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the flesh.´´ 133

This hadith is clear evidence that women will outnumber the men in Paradise. The number of women in Paradise doubles that of the men and even more. The enjoyment of the righteous women who enter Paradise is greater than that of the Hoor al-´Ayn as shall be discussed later.

How do we reconcile between the fact that women will be the majority of the dwellers of Paradise and the following hadith: ´´O Women! Give alms, for I have seen that you were the majority of the dwellers of Hellfire?´´

The answer to this is that women outnumber the men in the worl. It is recorded in the hadith that at the end of time in the world a man will be in charge of fifty woemn. In out time, the relative increase in the brith rate of female children over that of males is obvious; so much so that in some countries the ratio has reached 5 females to 1 male. This informs us of the reason why women are the majority of human beings in existence. By the same token, if half of all the men and half of the women in the world were to enter Paradise, women will be the majority of its dwellers and the same would apply if a quarter of the men and a quarter of the women of the world were to enter Hellfire.

Hence, the hadith: ´´Women are the majority of the inmates of Hellfire´´ should not be understood as incrimination of the female gender or a disparagement of them or that women commit more sins than men.

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
