Thrones and Couches of Paradise

With its beautiful furnishings, perfect chattels, wide coners, delightful to the heart and soul, our Lord gives a beautiful description, praise and eulogy of the furnishing to excite our yearning for it.

Allah says:

´´Therein will be thrones raised high, and cups set at hand, and cushions set in rows, and rich carpets (all) spread out.´´ (Al-Ghaashiyah: 13-16)

An-namaariq: are cushions which will be scattered all around on which the believers will sit and recline.

Az-zaraabiyy: are rugs spread on the floor which increases the beauty and elegance of the place.

Observe that Allah describes the thrones and beds as being raised high, the carpet as being spread out and the cushions as being set in rows. The raising of the thrones indicates its softness and the recliner´s panoramic view of all tha tsurrounds him. The arrangement in rows of the cushion and spreading of them is an indication of its numerousness and that he may sit anywhere on its surface.

The description of the cushions and pillows indicates that they are prepared for reclining on at all times and that they are not something kept away to be spread occasionally. 206
