Chapter. What is Islam? And the detail of its characteristics

 Talhah bin Ubaidullah narrated that a man from Najd with shaggy hair came to the Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam and we heard the sound of his voice but could not understand what he was saying, until when he came near to the Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam and then we found out that he was asking about Islam.

The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´You have to perform five Salat (prayer) in a day and night:´´ The man asked, ´´Is there any more prayer for me?´´ The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam replied. ´´No, unless you want to perform optional prayers.´´ The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam further said to him: 

´´You have to observe Saum (fasts) of the month of Ramadan.´´ The man asked, ´´Is there any more fasting upon me.?´´ The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam replied, ´´No, unless you want to observe the optional fasting.´´ Then the Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam further said to him:

´´You have to give the Zakat.´´ The man asked, ´´Is there any thing other than Zakat for me to give?´´ The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam replied, ´´No unless you want to give alms of your own.´´ Then the man want away saying, ´´By Allah! I will neither do less nor more than this.´´ The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam said,

´´If what he said is true, then he will be successful (i.e. he will be granted Jannah).´´ In another version it is narrated: The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´By his father, he will be successful if he will be successful if he is truthful.´´ Or: ´´By his father, he will enter Jannah if he is truthful.´´

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
