Deeds Like a Mirage
Their deeds are so described because the Kuffar carry out their deeds of goodness and charity thinking that they will benefit them but in relity they will not. Hence, they become like they thirsty person that pursues a mirage gleaming in his presence thinking that it is water but in reality, it is not Allah says,
As for those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water, until be comes up to it, finds it to be nothing, but he finds Allah with him, Who will pay him due (Hell). and Allah is Swift in taking account. (Surah An-Nur:39)
