The greatest of major sins is ascribing partner to Allah

 46. Abu Bakrah narrated: ´´We were with the Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam and he said: ´´Shall I inform you about the greatest of the major sins? (He reported it thrice): 

(1) To ascribe partners to allah,

(2) to disobey parents, and 

(3) to give a false testimony.´´ The Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam was reclining then he sat and he kept repeating it until we said would that he stop.

47. Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Avoid the seven deadly sins.´´ He was asked, ´´O Messenger of Allah! What are they?´´ He said: Áscribing partners to Allah, sorcery, taking the life which Allah has forbidden except through justice, devouring Riba (usury), devouring an orphan´s wealth, defeting from the battlefield, and accusing and libeling chaste and pious believing women.´´

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
