The Weighing of Deeds

 There are ahadith indicating that it is deeds that would be weighed in the scale as Allah´s Messenger salla alayhi wa sallam said,

Two are the expressions which are light on the tongue, but heavy in the scale, dear to Ar-Rahman (the Compassionate One),

Subhaana´llah wa Bihamdihi, Subhaana´llah il-´Atheem (Glory be to Allah and praise is due to Him; glory be to Allah, the Great). ´´195

He also said, Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) fills the scale. ´´196

The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned here an action which he described as heavy on the scale. Therefore, we understand that deeds would be weighed and that some deeds are heavier than others.

Voluntary Fasting

 Fasting is one of the major acts of worship with which Allah redeems the fasting person from the Fire. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´Fasting is a shield against the Fire (of Hell) just like the shield one of you would use during fighting.´´80 The supererogatory fasting has its virtue. The Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam said: ´´He who observes fast for a day in the path of Allah, He will remove his face from the Hell due to (the fast of) that day to the extent of seventy years.´ distance.´´81 The phrase ´in the path of Allah´ could either mean fasting a day sincerely, intending the pleasure of Allah; or fasting in the course of a military expedition in the path of Allah.

Backbiter and Tale-Bearer

 A backbiter is the individual who indugles in backiting which involves mentioning about your brother that which he would detest. The tale-bearer is the person who varries bad tale among the people in order to cause disaffection among them. These sins cause pervading tribulations, and enormous corruption also stems from them. Their perpetrators are among the worst of people and due to their capricious tongue, they speak as dictated by their whims and desires.  Their situation at the time of resurrection will be appalling as the Prophet salla alayhi wa sallam mentioned, Whoever eats the flesh of his brother in the world (i.e. bacjbites), he will be presented to him on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to him, Eat his dead as you have eaten him alive. He would eat him and he would scowl and scream.
