Greeting the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa sallam

 309. Abu Mas´ud Al-Ansari narrated: We were sitting in the company of Sa´d bin ´Ubadah when the Messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa sallam came to us. Bashir bin Sa´d said: ´´Allah has commanded us to supplicate for you. How do we do that?´´ The Messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa sallam kept silent that we wished he would not have asked him. The Messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa sallam then said: ´´(For blessing me) say: ´Allahumma salli ´ala Muhammadin wa ´ala ali Muhammadin, kama sallaita ´ala ali Ibrahima, wa bark ´ala Muhammadin wa ´ala ali Muhammadin, kama baraka ´ala ali Ibrahim, fil- ´alamin, innaka Hamidun Majid. (O Allah, exalt the mention of Muhammad, and the household of Muhammad as You exalted the mention of the household of Ibrahim, and bless Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, as You blessed the household of Ibrahim in the worlds. You certainly are Praised and Glorious.)´ And as for the greeting, you know it.´´
